Japan is ready to welcome tourists again. Not only should you book a flight immediately, but you should also reserve a spot on the Ichiroku Onomichi. What is the Ichiroku Onomichi, you ask? Let us explain.
The Ichiroku Onomichi is a 16-person bicycle that takes guests through the eastern downtown area of Onomichi, a port city in southwestern Honshu, about two and a half hours south of Kyoto by train. It is also the only place in Japan where these specially built bicycles are street-legal.
Here, guests will collaborate to pedal on the rather chic black and white bicycle with beige leather seats to reach the lesser-known attractions of the area, including the entertainment district of Shingai, an area dating back to the Edo period between 1603 and 1867.
Guests can choose from three tour options. The first is the “Onomichi Past and Present” tour, which takes travelers to places like Onomichi Vinegar, Japan’s oldest vinegar brewery, dating back to 1582. Guests can even sample some of the company’s offerings, as it also offers drinkable tastings. The tour starts at just ¥3,300.00, which is about $22.50, and includes a drink and a croissant from a local bakery for the ride.
The next option is the “Onomichi Beer” tour, which stops at the Onomichi Brewery, a modern brewery built in an old warehouse from 1894. After a tour of the brewery, guests of this tour also receive a takeaway cup so they can sip on the go. The tour starts at just ¥3,300.00, which is about $22.50, and includes a tasting at the brewery and a drink for the ride.
Finally, there is the “Onomichi Experience” tour, which takes guests to several stops on an outing, providing the best overview of the area – and the most movement you can expect on a group bike tour. The tour starts at just ¥1,650.00, which is about $11, and includes a drink for the ride.
Ready to explore with your friends? You only need a minimum of four people to book a tour, so reserve early to tailor the right experience for you. Learn more about the bikes and tours and book a ride here.
