Valentino is poised for a significant shake-up in the world of fashion as Pierpaolo Piccioli, after 25 years of dedicated service, is set to step down as the creative director. This announcement follows closely on the heels of Dries van Noten’s decision to depart from his eponymous brand, marking a week of momentous transitions in the industry.

Although Piccioli took on the sole role of creative director for Valentino in 2016, his journey with the esteemed Italian luxury house stretches back further. Initially sharing the title with Maria Grazia Chiuri for eight years, Piccioli continued to shape Valentino’s aesthetic landscape after Chiuri’s departure to helm Christian Dior.

Over the years, Piccioli has been instrumental in imprinting his unique stylistic vision onto the brand, a journey he embarked upon to carve out his own creative path. His departure, confirmed by Valentino’s CEO, Jacopo Venturini, signifies the end of an era. Venturini expressed gratitude for Piccioli’s pivotal role, acknowledging his vision, commitment, and creativity in shaping Valentino’s identity.

Chairman Rachid Mohamed Rachid also extended his appreciation to Piccioli, recognizing the designer’s significant contribution to Valentino’s rich legacy. Rachid emphasized Piccioli’s role in crafting an important chapter in the brand’s history, leaving an enduring mark on its identity.

In a poignant statement, Piccioli reflected on his 25-year journey with Valentino, highlighting the profound impact of the people he encountered along the way. He expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that brought forth beauty, dreams, and humanity, shaping the brand’s narrative. Piccioli acknowledged the privilege of sharing his dreams with his team and thanked Mr. Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti for their trust and support.

Valentino’s impending transformation extends beyond Piccioli’s departure. In a strategic move last July, Kering acquired a 30 percent stake in the brand, signaling potential changes on the horizon. With the possibility of Kering assuming full ownership by 2028, Valentino braces for significant shifts as it navigates its future trajectory.
