Actor, wrestler, and entrepreneur Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has introduced an affordable personal care brand for men called Papatui.
The skincare series aims to offer “high-quality, high-performance products available at affordable prices” and is currently only available in the USA through its own e-commerce site at papatui.com and in Target stores and on Target.com, with each product priced under $10.
Born out of Johnson’s belief in prioritizing holistic well-being and the idea that self-care is crucial, Papatui has undergone three years of development with a team of skincare experts and scientists focusing on creating products that contain both effective and cleaner ingredients, geared towards performance.
Speaking about the inspiration behind his skincare brand, Johnson stated, “People have been asking me about my skincare routine for years, and people know I’m a big advocate for all men taking care of themselves, inside and out. Men’s well-being will always be very important to me, and I’ve been fortunate to have access to some of the best resources and minds while developing Papatui.
“Working together with industry experts, we’ve committed to creating products that work and deliver the quality and value that all hardworking men deserve. Now, all my men out there can switch to high-quality products without having to pay high prices for them. I believe these products will help men take better care of themselves.”
Actor and wrestler Dwayne Johnson unveils skincare line Papatui
Named in honor of his Samoan grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, Papatui debuts with a collection offering skincare, haircare, body care, and tattoo care. Specifically formulated for the male consumer, it includes an oil-free facial moisturizer with a matte finish, a clinically proven antiperspirant providing 48-hour protection against sweat and odor, as well as innovative tattoo care products that both moisturize and brighten the ink design. The skincare range also includes a rejuvenating toner, which Johnson refers to as his personal “secret weapon” for exfoliation, skin hydration, and pore tightening, an invigorating eye gel, a refreshing body wash, a 2-in-1 nourishing shampoo and conditioner, and a 24-hour body lotion.
The formulas feature key ingredients such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and salicylic acid in the skincare products, while nourishing ingredients like mango butter and coconut oil are present in the body care and tattoo care products. Additionally, all Papatui products are formulated without parabens, sulfates, dyes, alcohol, and PEGs.
In addition to providing high-quality formulations at affordable prices, Johnson wanted his products’ scents to compete with leading global fragrances, collaborating with luxury perfumery firm Firmenich and master perfumers Frank Voelkl and Clement Gavarry. The result is three unique luxury scents – Sandalwood Suede, Lush Coconut, and Cedarwood Sport.
Johnson added, “The name Papatui holds personal significance for me. My Samoan grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, was the first man to show me what men’s grooming is about. Even though I was just a five-year-old punk kid back then, my grandfather was one of my heroes. He was strikingly handsome, had beautiful skin, was well-groomed, always smelled incredible, was loved and respected by everyone, and on top of that, he was also damn tough – a trait he obviously didn’t pass down to me.
“His nickname for me was ‘Tui.’ And ‘Papa,’ which means ‘rock’ in Samoan, also comes from my most important and cherished role as a father of my three daughters. I wanted to honor these anchors in my life. Hence, Papatui.”
Commenting on the launch at Target, Rick Gomez, Executive Vice President and Chief Food, Essentials, and Beauty Officer at Target, said, “Papatui is an amazing brand at exceptional prices, and I’m incredibly proud of the partnership that has gone into this launch.
“Dwayne and the Papatui team have spent time and worked closely with us at Target to deliver a range of high-quality, clean products that I believe customers will absolutely love.”
The collection is priced between $7.99 and $9.99.
